Who We Are…and What Are We Doing

Welcome to the HI-NC Initiative website! HI stands for Healthy IDEAS (Identifying Depression, Empowering Activities for Seniors), an evidence-based program that develops the capacity of aging services providers in the community to detect depression in older adults and intervene effectively.  The School of Nursing at UNC-Chapel Hill received funding to address depression in older adults in North Carolina.  The purpose of the HI-NC Initiative is to help disseminate Healthy IDEAS in up to 15 NC counties.

Our strong partnership with the Healthy IDEAS National Dissemination Team in Houston, Texas allows the School of Nursing to serve as a coordination and dissemination site for Healthy IDEAS in NC (HI-NC Initiative).  The School is well situated to expand HI dissemination to other counties, providing psychiatric expertise and a strong commitment to community-based mental health.

From 2013-2016, the HI-NC Initiative team will work closely with aging services agencies to ensure successful implementation of HI and the mental health professionals (Coaches) who provide back-up support to staff. Collaborating with the HI National Dissemination Team, this project will also focus on modifying the HI training format to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
